SmartVision 6.5 Can Now Automatically Recognize Special-Purpose Vehicles
A new version of the SmartVision video surveillance system, SmartVision 6.5, has been released. One of the key new features is automatic recognition of special-purpose vehicles in video streams.
SmartVision can now identify several vehicle categories:
police vehicles;
taxis;
ambulances;
fire trucks.
Recognition is performed automatically using computer vision technologies. The system analyzes video from connected cameras and determines the vehicle type without operator involvement.
The new feature expands SmartVision usage scenarios for parking facilities, gated communities, business centers, industrial sites, warehouses, and other locations with controlled vehicle access. For example, the system can be configured to automatically allow specific categories of vehicles to enter.
If a camera detects an ambulance, police vehicle, or fire truck, SmartVision can generate a corresponding event. This event can then be used by an access control system to automatically open a gate or barrier. Similar rules can be created for taxis, service vehicles, or other specialized transport.
This approach makes it possible to use more than traditional license plate recognition. In some scenarios, the vehicle category itself is important, because it is impossible to add the license plate number of every possible ambulance, police car, or fire truck to an access whitelist in advance.
Special-purpose vehicle recognition can also be used for analytics. SmartVision can automatically record the appearance of specific vehicle categories within a camera’s field of view and use these events in further processing, automation, and notification scenarios.
With the release of SmartVision 6.5, the platform continues to expand its intelligent video analytics capabilities, turning conventional surveillance cameras into tools for automated monitoring, access management, and site control.
